This is insane. I get the same feeling from your music as I do from watching demosceners do the impossible and push old computers far beyond their limits. Am I right in saying that the NS5R is a superset of the X5DR? Could this track be consolidated onto just the NS5R or are you using both for the required polyphony and or additional effects?

Holy crap. I cannot believe what you can get out of these little boxes of wonder. Loved your Kandi8 track - sounds wonderful on my MU2000 (and even on the vulnerable MU10 with a little tweaking!)... I'm waiting to receive an NX5R and this will be the first thing I play on it. Unbelievably good stuff. I wonder if you could make an AKAI SG01K sound good - got one of these recently and it really is surprisingly low end given its lineage.

Chris and I created the XG version of Children as a demo track for the DX50XG. It used various tricks to get closer to the original, but this wasn’t one that occurred to us at the time. I’ve still got the box the card we used, where the card is, I don’t know! At the time, XG was pretty impressive but not really being shown off, which is why Chris and I created this as well as a few of our own Progressive Trance style tracks. Interesting one went on to be turned into a record by a Dutch music label....I’m still waiting for that royalty cheque!

I remember back in the day (~1995) Yamaha bundled “XG techno kit” with their XG sound cards (like DB50XG and SW60XG), and for “techno kick” they described exactly same trick with HiQ. Sadly, initial (level 1) XG devices didn’t have any TR909 samples, only 808 was there. Was always wondering - why that was the case - licensing issues with Roland or something else?.. I remember I’ve spent many hours trying to recreate 909 kick and OHH. With kick it was more or less doable (kind of), but not really for OHH. It forced to be creative though.

Awesome information! Question: your ns5r supports aftertouch? i just got mine and couldn't find it anywhere, i have a x5r/w wich does have aftertouch my midi controller has aftertouch but for some reason it doesn't transmit AT to my ns5r

Recently got an MU10, MU100 and shortly thereafter an MU2000. Your compositions are the best XG I’ve ever heard. Simply amazing.

QY100 is my desert island gear 😂

MIDI music has that naïf vibe to it that always relaxes, really nice tracks.

Love it. Once again proving XG still has legs decades later. Owning a QY is a good was to resist SeqTrak GAS.

The footsteps with the brush sound really make it sound like a realistic vinyl crackling noise. Also, I love how unlike most people, you are a master with the QY70 as you make songs that are realistic and accurate to what the genre is.

The good thing is is that you can use this with an MU90 or later. Also, the Hip Hop and Jungle kits sounded like DnB with a touch of Jungle.

Kitty with autotune sounds like a cat that decided to sing with a perfect pitch!😊

Hi JayB, this is an amazing track done with this little devices. I have a QY70 but am considering getting a QY100 but have been detracted a bit because apparently the sound (engine? dac?) is quite different coming out of these two devices. Considering you have owned/used both, would you say that the sound signature is very different between the two devices? i really like the warm techy sounds i get from my QY70. Bass is sick on that device. Cheers.

My parents bought this one for me when I was 5 or 6 and I remember fooling around with it and trying all the combinations, but as I lacked the musical training, nothing as cool as those tunes of yours came from the speakers of my keyboard. I wish I still had it.

finally someone who showed how the kross2 sequencer works. I’m thinking about buying this keyboard but not Korg’s website, videos or manual say anything relevante on how to sequence full tracks. smh It would be awesome if you could do a video walking through on how to sequence a song on this keyboard or point me somewhere
